Philip Ahlqvist
Software โข Linux Geek โข Philosopher
I'm a 20-year-old Swedish developer who enjoys building things in my spare time. Outside of coding, I like spending time outdoors. Hiking, long walks, you name it. Self-improvement is something I care deeply about, so I spend time reading books and pushing myself in different areas.
I'm an avid Arch Linux enjoyer since 2021. I got tired of the Windows treatment and sought for something different. Linux allows me to build a system tailored exactly to how I want it to be. I get to put the different pieces together however I want. I fell in love with the concept of tiling window managers since the moment I switched. It fits perfectly with my strive towards digital minimalism.

I value privacy and control over my digital life, which is why I self-host various services. You can find a list of them on my /forge page. There's something satisfying about running your own infrastructure.

Principles
These are things I've picked up over the years that I think have made my life better. Some took a long time to learn, others came from wanting to understand why things are the way they are.
General
- Minimal consumption I keep consumption to a minimum, both digital and physical. I've found that less clutter, less noise, and less distraction leads to a clearer mind.
- Self-sufficiency I value being able to do things myself. From cooking to maintaining my own infrastructure, I prefer relying on my own skills.
- No gambling It's not something I engage in. I've seen how it can negatively affect people.
- Continuous learning There's always something new to learn. Whether it's a language, a skill, or understanding myself better.
Health
- No drugs or alcohol I value a clear mind and body. I believe what we put into our system directly affects how we think and feel.
- No caffeine Never been a fan of it. Never liked coffee or energy drinks.
- Avoid unhealthy food What we put in our body matters. I try to eat whole, unprocessed foods as much as possible.
- No eating out Unless it's a special gathering. Cooking at home gives me full control over what I consume, and it's often more healthy and affordable.
Media
- No profanity I find it lowers the quality of communication. It often becomes a crutch rather than a tool for expression.
- No short-form social media TikTok, Reels, Shorts, etc. These platforms are designed to be addictive and the endless scroll is a trap I've chosen to opt out of.
- No TV I don't own a TV and I don't watch TV channels. Sometimes I'll watch a show or a movie, but traditional television isn't something I engage with.
Software
- Free and open source software I believe in software that respects user freedom and privacy. The idea of services being built to exploit users rather than serve them rubs me the wrong way.
Languages
Over the years I've developed an interest in language learning. Here's a list of some that I feel confident enough to share:
-
๐ธ๐ช Swedish Native
Born and raised in Sweden โ this is the language of home and family. (often the language I question my knowledge of the most ๐)
-
๐บ๐ธ English Fluent
Started in school, then spent countless hours on my own to get where I am now. Learning English was what sparked my interest in language learning in the first place.
-
๐ซ๐ท French Elementary
Studied in school for a few years. Can handle basic conversations and read simple texts without too much embarrassment.
-
๐ท๐บ Russian Beginner
Can read the alphabet and say 'ะฟัะธะฒะตั' without butchering it too badly. Progress is slow, but the journey is fun.
-
๐ Latin Basic reading knowledge
Self-taught out of pure curiosity and appreciation of how it has shaped modern languages. For any one interested, the Lingua Latina series by Hans รrberg is a great resource.
